Barnsley - Dearne Stadium
Old Mill Lane : S71 1LN
Barnsley - Dearne Stadium : Map credit National Library of Scotland The Sports Stadium at Old Mill in Barnsley was built in 1934 by the Dearne Athletic and Sports Stadium Ltd and was used for whippet racing in 1934 and then greyhound racing from 1934-1935. The Stadium was at the rear of the Tollgate Hotel on Old Mill Lane.

On August Bank Holiday Monday 1935 there was a Gala and Carnival advertised at the stadium which included a Band Contest, Bathing Beauty competition and sports with bicycle races.

In May 1935, Barnsley Council refused the application for greyhound racing at the Old Mill, meaning that no betting meetings could take place. The stadium probably closed shortly after this.

The sports field still exists alongside a small development of business units next to the A61. The Tollgate Hotel was demolished in the 1990's.
